When you're thinking about going to a church for the first time, there are a few questions that can start to worry you. Here are the answers to some - if you've got others, please use the Contact Form to get in touch.
Can I come to a service if I'm not a member?
Of course. We welcome people from all backgrounds; people who are Christians, people who are unsure, and those seeking faith.
Will there be anywhere to park?
All our venues have car parking outside.
What do I have to wear?
Come as you like - you don't have to dress a certain way.
Do I need to bring money?
No. Our regulars leave their money offerings for the church on the table as they go in. There's no collection taken in the service.
When I arrive, what will happen?
When you arrive, you will be greeted at the door by one of the elders or the minister. They'll say hello and shake your hand - that's all! Then you can go in and sit where you like to wait for the service to begin.
If I come to a service, how will I know what to do?
Our services are very simple. There will be singing from a book (you will be given one of these on your way in, or they will be in the seats), reading from the Bible (these will be in the seats), prayer and a sermon. The page numbers for the singing and Bible readings are given, so you won't be wondering where on earth Jonah is in the Bible.
Do I have to sing?
No. If you're uncomfortable singing or don't know the words, you can just follow them in the book. No-one will mind.
What if I have children with me?
At our services, there's either a Sunday School or Creche for children. Please ask about these when you arrive.
What happens after?
In South Uist and Benbecula, we have tea/coffee after the services.
